Legendary Lake Pend Oreille, Part 8

Area 7, Johnson Creek to the Green Monarchs

Jane Fritz has lived in Sandpoint, Idaho, for 40 years and is a published writer, poet, independent radio producer and author of Legendary Lake Pend Oreille (Keokee Books, 2018, 2010). She is also the media director of The Idaho Mythweaver, a 30-year-old nonprofit organization that has worked with the Plateau tribes of the region. For many years, she was a community producer of feature stories and documentaries for KPBX, as well as for national programs like Living on Earth (now on PRX) and National Native News. Her most recent writing and poetry typically deal with threats to the natural world, especially endangered wildlife.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
